There are many places of historical and natural interest around the Aegean Coast region within a 2 hour drive of the apartment but the closest site is the huge 'Temple of Apollo', located in Didim, which is well worth a visit. However, for those of you who do not wish to drive there are numerous coach tours which leave from Altinkum on a daily basis during high season not only to the nearby coastal resorts of Bodrum and Kusadasi, but also to the following places of historical and natural interest:
Temple of Apollo:
The ancient Temple of Apollo at Didyma 5 km north of Altinkum was the third largest structure of the ancient Greek world when built around 1000 BC.
The Castle of St Peter:
Located in Bodrum and is one of the finest and most complete castles in Turkey, built by the crusading Knights of St John in 1408. It is also home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology displaying unique collections of ancient artefacts.

Ancient times philosophy centre 19 Km
Akkoy:
Village Vine, Old Greek Houses 15 Km
Ephesus:
Ancient Roman city 90 Km. One of the largest and most complete ancient city in the eastern Mediterranean, situated 19 km (12 miles) north east of Kusadasi. It is a must-see even if you are not into history. The exceptionally well-preserved buildings allow us to step back in time to life in Roman Asia Minor over 1500 years ago.

Pamukkale:
One of Turkey's most beautiful and spectacular landscapes 'The Eighth Wonder of the World' - 220 Km. (Pamuk-kalay) means 'cotton castle' in Turkish. This huge natural travertine (a type of crystalline rock) fountain is one of Turkey's most famous attractions. Relax in the thermal springs renowned for their therapy and visit the Roman Baths, theatre and ancient city of Hierapolis
Priene:
The House of Alexander The Great, Athena temple 40 Km. The ancient harbor city Priene, now located at the foot of a spectacular cliff on Mount Mycale presents a breathtaking view of Soke lowland created by the Meander River.
In addition to the above there is also an aqua park just outside Altinkum which can be reached using the local 'dolmus' buses. and the natural beauty of Dilek Peninsula, the Meander delta, Bafa Lake and the 60km coast with hundred of coves, a bonus for land based travellers.
